| Bayer Biological Products, a division
of Bayer HealthCare, is reformulating its business.
Contributing to an effort by its parent to focus
on consumer health products, it has sold its US-based
plasma businesses to a new venture, Talecris Biohtherapeutics,
which is controlled by private equity firms Cerberus
Partners and Ampersand Ventures; Bayer Biological
Products owns 10% of this new company. Divested
businesses include hyperimmune treatments Polyglobin
and Gamimune, and Prolastin, which is used in
the treatment of a genetic disorder that can lead
to emphysema; Bayer will still distribute these
products. The company is hanging on to its Kogenate
product line, which manufactures a treatment for
hemophilia A. |
