CancerVax wants to see if it Canvaxin-ate you against cancer. The development-stage firm's lead product candidate is Canvaxin, which is in Phase III trials as a post-surgery therapy for patients with later-stage skin cancer. The vaccine relies on some 40 anti-cancer antigens to match a patient's tumor; if a match exists, Canvaxin gets the patient's immune system to muster the troops and fight the cancer. CancerVax is also developing its lead candidate to fight colon cancer. Canvaxin suffered a setback in 2005, when CancerVax was forced to halt a trial testing it on the most advanced stage of skin cancer. A trial of the drug on less-advanced melanoma continues.
