Cell Therapeutics (CTI) is a toxic avenger. The firm creates more effective and less toxic treatments for various forms of cancer. Its Trisenox is FDA- and European Union-approved to combat a certain type of leukemia. The drug is being tested on lymphomas and multiple myeloma; it has US orphan drug status for chronic myeloid leukemias, among others. After running into funding shortfalls, the company has announced plans to sell the drug to Cephalon. Cell Therapeutics is focusing on Xyotax, an agent based on Taxol, the successful cancer fighter from Bristol-Myers Squibb. The candidate could treat non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Partner Chugai Pharmaceutical will market this product in Asia.
