OVERALL OBJECTIVES:
The overall objective is to provide the participant with practical and clinically relevant information. Upon completion of this CME activity, the physician or healthcare provider should be able to describe the current approach to formulating differential diagnoses, diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive management of the various disciplines presented.


NEEDS STATEMENT:
In today’s era of cost containment and managed care, the Primary Care Practitioner is expected to be competent in the fundamentals of many specialized areas of medicine. This is especially true for the specialty of Cardiology when it comes to interpreting ECG’s and initial management and follow-up of common arrhythmias and other conditions. This presentation will teach both medical and device therapy for such common patient complaints as CHF, HTN, Tachy and Bradyarrhythmias. It will also teach the skills of ECG “first-read” and management options that are most needed in the settings of rural office and emergency rooms, as well as after-hours interpretation in any clinic or urgent care settings.

Day 1 Hypertension. Chest Pain and Noninvasive Testing for Coronary Artery Disease. Risk Factors. Risk Stratification.

Day 2 Risk Reduction. Atrial Fibrillation. Aortic Valve Disease. Mitral Valve Disease.

Day 3 Congestive Heart Failure. Diastolic Heart Failure and Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. Diseases of the Aorta – Aneurysm and Dissection. Cardiac Emergencies – Acute Pulmonary Edema and Shock.

Day 4 Perioperative Cardiac Evaluation and Management. Syncope. Sudden Cardiac Death, Bradycardia and Atrioventricular Block. Palpitations and Supraventricular Tachycardia.

Day 5 Acute ST- Elevation Myocardial Infarction. Unstable Angina Pectoris/Non ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction and Stable Angina. Interesting Clinical Cases. Women and Coronary Artery Disease.
